Come and see how Porterville celebrated its 100th birthday in 1961. To honor its founding a century earlier, the community held events throughout the year. Museum archivist, John McWilliams, has been gathering donated items representative of the year-long celebrations. Included are the original time capsule for the celebration (donated by Vernon Martin), original 1961 wood sign, vintage apparel, mementos and photos. (You or someone you know might even be in some of them!) The exhibit will open on Saturday, July 10th, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Preview Event Reception at 6:00 PM. Bill Horst will hold a Centennial Celebration presentation on Saturday, July 17th starting at 11:00 a.m. Bill participated in the Centennial Celebrations in 1961 and will share his memories of that year with colorful and humorous stories. Mark these dates on your calendar. You will be glad you did.
